(JUDGES)
After Joshua’s death, the people forgot,
The covenant with God, the lessons it taught.
They turned to idols, to Baal they prayed,
Forsaking the Lord, their hearts betrayed.
God’s anger burned, He gave them to foes,
Their enemies struck, their suffering rose.
In their distress, they cried out strong,
And God raised judges to right the wrong.
Israel sinned, then cried in despair,
God sent deliverers to show He cared.
But peace was brief, rebellion returned,
God’s judgment fell, His justice burned.
Oppression came, they’d call on His name,
A cycle of sin, again and the same.
The judges rose, but the people would stray,
Turning from God, falling away.
Deborah rose, a prophet, wise,
A judge for Israel, she opened their eyes.
She called on Barak to lead the fight,
Against Sisera’s army, with God’s might.
Jael struck Sisera, her hand was bold,
A tent peg drove through, the story told.
God delivered His people again,
Through women of courage, His justice would win.
Gideon was called, though he was weak,
God chose him still, the victory to seek.
“Go in strength, for I am with you,
Tear down the idols, My Word is true.”
With just three hundred, the battle was won,
The Midianites fled, their time was done.
But Gideon stumbled, a snare he made,
A golden ephod, and the people strayed.
Jephthah rose, a mighty man,
Called by God to save the land.
He fought the Ammonites, led the fight,
But made a vow that wasn’t right.
“If You give me victory, Lord,” he said,
“I’ll sacrifice the first from my door instead.”
His daughter came out, his heart was torn,
A tragic vow, a life to mourn.
Samson was born, a Nazarite child,
Set apart for God, strong yet wild.
He judged Israel, his strength unmatched,
But to his passions, his heart was attached.
Delilah deceived him, his secret betrayed,
His strength was lost, his power swayed.
Blinded and bound, he called on the Lord,
And in his death, God’s power restored.
In those days, there was no king,
Each did what was right in their own thinking.
Idolatry spread, the people fell,
Violence and sin, a story to tell.
The tribe of Dan sought a land to claim,
But their conquest brought dishonor and shame.
A Levite’s concubine, abused and slain,
A civil war followed, and bloodshed reigned.
Judges ruled, but the people failed,
God’s covenant broken, their sin prevailed.
Yet through the chaos, His plan was sure,
A coming King, righteous and pure.
The story unfolds, His purpose clear,
God’s faithfulness shines, year after year.
