Lyrics

(2 SAMUEL)

After Saul’s death, David mourned,

A king was lost, a kingdom torn.

In Hebron, Judah crowned him king,

But Israel followed Saul’s offspring.

A civil war, tribes at strife,

David’s rise came with loss of life.

At last, all Israel made him their own,

Anointed as king on a unified throne.

David conquered Zion, the city of God,

Jerusalem became his royal abode.

He brought the Ark to its rightful place,

A sign of God’s presence, His holy grace.

With dancing and joy, the people praised,

God’s name was lifted, His banner raised.

David ruled with justice and might,

A king after God’s own heart, upright.

The Lord made a promise, a covenant sure,

David’s kingdom forever would endure.

“Your house and throne shall never fall,

Through your line, I’ll send the call.

A King will come, a Savior divine,

To reign forever on David’s line.”

God’s faithfulness, His love displayed,

A promise eternal, His Word obeyed.

David conquered nations, his kingdom grew,

The Lord was with him in all he’d do.

Philistines, Moab, and Edom fell,

God’s power and might, the victories tell.

He showed great kindness to Jonathan’s son,

Mephibosheth, the crippled one.

A king who remembered, with mercy to give,

A picture of grace, a call to forgive.

But David sinned, his heart led astray,

By Bathsheba’s beauty, he lost his way.

He took another man’s wife as his own,

And sent her husband to die alone.

The prophet Nathan exposed his sin,

David repented, but trouble began.

The sword would never depart from his line,

Yet God forgave, His mercy divine.

David’s house was torn apart,

As Absalom rose with a rebel’s heart.

He stole the kingdom, his father’s throne,

And sought to rule it as his own.

David fled, his heart in pain,

But God’s plan would still remain.

Absalom fell, his pride was his snare,

David wept for the son who’d erred.

David returned, the kingdom restored,

But his family’s strife could not be ignored.

He ruled with wisdom, but trials stayed,

The weight of his sins would not fade away.

Through it all, God’s promise stood,

A future King who would bring all good.

David’s story points to the One,

The eternal reign of the coming Son.

In 2 Samuel, we see God’s hand,

Guiding His people, fulfilling His plan.

Through David’s triumphs and his fall,

God’s mercy and justice ruled it all.

A promise was made, a King would rise,

From David’s line, the Messiah, our prize.

God’s faithfulness, through sin and strife,

Brings redemption, hope, and eternal life.
