(1 KINGS)
Verse 1: Solomon Becomes King
David grew old, his health declined,
Adonijah sought the throne, defying the line.
But Solomon was chosen, God’s decree,
Anointed by Nathan and set to lead.
David charged his son to follow the Lord,
To obey His commands, to keep His Word.
David died, and Solomon reigned,
A new era of Israel was proclaimed.
God appeared to Solomon in a dream,
“Ask what you want,” He said, supreme.
Solomon asked for wisdom to lead,
To judge the people and meet their need.
God was pleased and gave him more,
Wisdom, wealth, and blessings in store.
His wisdom spread, his fame grew wide,
The nations marveled, with kings by his side.
Solomon built what David had planned,
A temple for God in the promised land.
Seven years of labor, the work was done,
A house for the Lord, the Holy One.
The Ark was placed in the Most Holy Place,
The glory of God filled the sacred space.
Solomon prayed and blessed the crowd,
As God’s presence descended like a cloud.
Though wise and blessed, Solomon fell,
His heart turned away, as the Scriptures tell.
He married foreign wives, their gods he served,
Forsaking the Lord, whose love he spurned.
Idols were built, sin took hold,
The kingdom’s future grew weak and cold.
God declared, “Your house will divide,
Your son will lose what you’ve defied.”
Rehoboam ruled after Solomon’s reign,
But his pride and greed brought the kingdom pain.
The tribes of Israel rebelled and split,
Ten tribes left, their loyalty quit.
Jeroboam ruled the northern land,
But led them to sin with idols in hand.
Judah remained with David’s line,
While Israel fell to idolatry’s shrine.
Ahab ruled Israel, his heart astray,
With Jezebel leading him further away.
Baal was worshipped, altars raised,
The Lord was forgotten, His name not praised.
Elijah arose, a prophet of fire,
Calling the people to God’s desire.
On Mount Carmel, God showed His might,
Fire fell from heaven, proving Him right.
Through Solomon’s glory and tragic fall,
Through Israel’s division, God ruled it all.
Prophets arose to call them back,
To warn of judgment for the faith they lacked.
Elijah stood firm, though he felt alone,
God reminded him, “I’m still on the throne.”
Though kings may fail, God’s plan is sure,
His covenant promise will always endure.
1 Kings reveals the rise and fall,
Of kings who answered or ignored God’s call.
From Solomon’s wisdom to his sinful way,
To a divided kingdom in disarray.
Yet through the chaos, God’s hand stayed,
Preparing the way for the King He made.
His promises stand, His Word is true,
His plans are eternal, for me and you.
