Where The Gravel Ends

Sun comin’ up on a two-lane bend, Coffee in a cup and a day to spend. Old dog stretchin’ on the porch out front, Rooster talkin’ like he owns the month. And the mailbox leans like an old best friend, Right out there where the gravel ends. Ain’t no hurry like the city makes, Just a steady pace and a little faith. That’s life in the country, simple and good, Where you work what you’ve got, like your daddy would. Wave at a neighbor, stop when they need, Hands in the dirt, heart on the sleeve. Yeah, it ain’t always easy, but it’s honest and free That’s life in the country livin’ in me. Fence wire bitin’ at my worn-out gloves, Wind in the field like a hymn of love. Kids chasin’ fireflies, jars in hand, Laughin’ like they’ve got the whole world planned. And the radio’s low with a backroad tune, While the sun takes a bow to the harvest moon. We don’t need much to feel alright, Just a little land and a porch light. When the storm rolls in and the sky turns mean, We pull together like we’ve always been. Share what we have, say a prayer or two, Then watch the clouds break up into blue. And you learn real quick what lasts and what won’t A good word, a promise, and doin’ what you don’t. Yeah, life in the country, simple and good, Where you stand on your name like you said you would. Slow down the worry, grow up the dream, Find a little joy in the in-between. It might not be fancy, but it feels like home to me Yeah, life in the country… livin’ in me.
