The Arctic's White Giant
The Arctic's White Giant
In Arctic ice where cold winds blow,
Across the endless fields of snow,
The polar bear, the ice bear white,
Roams through the long and frozen night.
Largest carnivore on land,
King of this frozen, barren strand.
Their fur appears as pure as snow,
But hollow hairs help warmth to flow.
Black skin beneath absorbs the heat,
While massive paws, so broad and neat,
Spread wide like snowshoes on the ice,
Nature's perfect cold device.
Expert swimmers of the sea,
They hunt with patient strategy.
At breathing holes they wait for hours,
Using all their hunting powers.
When seals surface for their air,
Lightning strikes from ice bear's lair.
From Greenland to Alaska's shore,
Where ancient glaciers touch and roar,
These solitary giants roam,
The frozen Arctic is their home.
But warming seas and melting ice
May make them pay the highest price.
The mother bear in snowy den,
Protects her cubs from wind and rain.
Teaching them to hunt and swim,
When spring arrives and ice grows thin.
These symbols of the frozen north
Must have our help to venture forth.
